With a population of 400,000 and located on the East Coast of New Zealand's South Island, the city's proximity to the sea and mountains offers the best of many worlds – from shopping and entertainment to skiing, golfing, bungy jumping, mountain biking, hot-air ballooning, whale watching, or quietly enjoying world-class wineries and gardens. And all of this within two hours or less from its international airport.
In town, the Avon River winds through the vibrant city centre, where you’ll find plenty of spots for resting in the shade and taking in the view.

Climate
Christchurch’s climate is fairly dry, but generally temperate and comfortable. And while winter nights are often frosty and cold, they’re usually followed by a sunny, still day. Canterbury’s famous warm Nor 'wester winds are more common during the summer months (December through February).
